Coalition for Action on High Risk Drinking
The Coalition for Action on High Risk Drinking (CAHRD) is a group of University and other representatives who, in some way, interact with students who may be engaging in high risk drinking behaviours. This can result in a number of problems for students, including health problems, academic difficulty, disciplinary action and addiction, among others. the members of CAHRD seek to help students make responsible choices around their drinking by providing resources and information. We do not seek to promote abstinence - we believe students must make their own choices - but we aim to arm student with the information they need in order to make informed choices.
One of our most powerful tools is Check Yourself, a self-assessment tool for students who are concerned about their own drinking or that of a friend. It allows students to complete the tool from the comfort and privacy of their own home, and provides a personalized report comparing their drinking habits to those of their peers and highlighting risks they might be unaware of.
CAHRD also seeks to gather information about emerging trends and ongoing issues related to high risk drinking. CAHRD members, who work directly with students in various ways, use that information to inform their work to design preventative programming, or to target information to specific student populations.
